Inspired by the birdsongs and calls heard around the artist’s studio  at National Trust Gibside.

These pieces begin as drawings which try to suggest the timbre of bird sounds. Backgrounds are produced using the colours and shapes suggested by the artist’s experience and knowledge of each bird. The birdsong drawings are then carefully reproduced by applying genuine gold leaf to the backgrounds.
